Lime ordered to reduce dockless scooter fleet for violating city ordinance

They had more dockless scooters than they were allowed to in downtown Austin… now there’s a thousand fewer of them on the streets.

The City of Austin’s Transportation Department has ordered a twenty percent reduction in Lime’s dockless scooter fleet for thirty days. A memo by Director Robert Spillar says on five occasions, Lime violated city ordinances and deployed over one hundred more than the 500 scooters they were allowed to; thereby saturating the area and creating a safety hazard. Spillar said Lime was warned but did nothing to comply. Lime can only operate four thousand scooters now.
