The Salvation Army re-opens their East Austin Women and Childrens Shelter this morning amid a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Jan Gunter with the Salvation Army said the expansion of the facility came from a 2012 bond issue. She also mentioned that they are increasing capacity from 60 beds to 81 total beds.
The renovated shelter features a new residential wing and expanded child care facilities.
Gunter also said another shelter facility nearby will open next year which will make even more beds available for their clients
