The head of a local activist group has been accused of assault

Chas Moore of the Austin Justice Coalition is charged with assault related to an incident recently on 6th Street.  And while he has not yet been arrested, he is expected to turn himself into police this week.  Moore has been at the forefront of pushback over a new police contract — playing a key role in the push to have the city council reject a proposed contract late last year, and he’s been one of the loudest critics of the Austin Police Department as a whole.

Hours before it was learned of the alleged incident, Austin Mayor Steve Adler praised Moore via Twitter for a nomination for the Champion of Justice Award by the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center.
