A 180 year-old wrong could be righted this week at Austin City Council

This week Austin City Council could consider changing the spelling of Manchaca Road. The road was named for Republic of Texas Army officer Antonio Menchaca, who protected settlers around Onion Creek from Comanche raiders before the civil war. Justice For Menchaca founder Bob Perkins says even though people have misprounounced it for so long, they know it’s named for him.

Perkins says his group will pay to change all street signs to the corrected spelling and it won’t cost taxpayers a penny.
