Nearly a full year later, Austin police and city officials appear to have reached a tentative agreement. Among the more debated items of a new contract has been the pay scale. The initial APD proposal was a 9.5-percent rise in pay over the span of five years, plus pay stipends.
While full details of this new agreement aren’t known, it looks to be a four-year deal where AP would get a 1-percent raise the first year, and a 2-percent raise the other three years.
The city’s end includes more civilian oversight, as demanded by activists. The city manager said he believes it to be a fair deal. It still needs to be fully approved by both the council and union top brass.
