Shelter Seeking Donations, Fosters Due to Emergency Intake

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is seeking donations, volunteers and fosters as shelter staff and nonprofit agencies continue their response to an emergency animal intake from last week.

Due to the influx of animals and the care required, the shelter is open for reclaims only from 1-5 p.m. today, and will be open for adoptions and reclaims from 1-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Shelter staff expect modified hours to be in effect for the next one to two weeks.

Volunteers and fosters

The shelter is currently in need of volunteers to help clean adoptable animals. Volunteers, both new and existing, who are interested in assisting at the shelter should contact AIR, Animal Investigation and Response, at http://www.animalinvestigationandresponse.org/volunteer/ .

People interested in fostering animals should contact Paws at info@pawsshelter.org.

Update

Animal shelter staff continue to establish a long term plan for rescued animals for the duration of the case, and AIR is coordinating efforts for placement of animals from the shelter.

Normal hours of operation for the shelter will be delayed as it is at maximum capacity.  As a result, shelter operations will remain limited to reclaim and adoption until more space is available for animal intake. Staff also continues to work with PAWS to place animals and for immediate foster interests.

 Found pets

The shelter is asking the public to please hold onto stray or found animals if possible and check back with the shelter next week to see if space is available. Also, they should post a FOUND Report and review LOST reports on our website www.sanmarcostx.gov/lostandfoundpets.
