The crime rate in Hutto is receding

Bar Graph showing downward trend

Hutto saw a downward trend in crime rates across the city over the year. This is especially true when it comes to sexual assault, which has dropped by 14 percent since 2017.  Hutto Police Chief Byron Frankland said it coincides with an ordinance passed last year that restricts where people who are convicted of child sexual assault can live. The ordinance bans those specific sex offenders from living within 1000 feet of anywhere children congregate such as city parks, bus stops, playgrounds, sporting events and places of that nature. Frankland said that burglary, robbery and drunken driving arrests are also down from the previous year. Amid the drop in crime stats overall, Frankland said the call for service have actually rose this year by 12-percent.
