A mother takes her case to a federal courtroom after she says a teacher’s aide in the Austin school district hurt her autistic son. Nidia Heston tells KVUE the aide threw a trash can at the boy, busting his lip and chipping his tooth. She also told KVUE that it is really unfortunate that families can’t trust dropping their kids off at school.
She has taken her case to federal court because state law grants school districts immunity when it comes to personal injury claims. Heston says a year before, she asked AISD to replace the aide, but the district refused. The aide, Jennifer Hardison, received two years probation for assault.
