A working group has been formed to review Austin police policies over when it would be appropriate to cite-and-release someone caught committing low-level crimes. Assistant Chief Troy Gay says it’s a direct result of the city council’s recent Freedom City ordinances. This new working group, consisting of activist groups, public safety commission members, and a few officers, will look at what police need to do differently.
