An overhaul of Congress Avenue moves a bit closer to reality.
Public surveys have shown the most support for reducing vehicle lanes of traffic from six down to five, and including what are being called flex-lanes at the curbsides in which parking would be allowed during off-peak hours, but would remain an open lane during rush hour. Tonya Swartzendruber with the planning department claimed this would make it a bit safer for pedestrians by including a 27-inch sidewalk and a raised bike lane on either side.
She added this plan would reduce vehicle traffic volume from its current 52{91a3a066265893d5d93b921204e5bbe4720deb431f82cc483a406ec22b140854} down to 43{91a3a066265893d5d93b921204e5bbe4720deb431f82cc483a406ec22b140854} during peak times.
