Texas State BOE to develop Mexican-American studies in High Schools

After a four year debate over whether Texas High Schools should have a Mexican-American Studies course the State Board of Education is moving ahead with its development. The latest argument is over what to call the course. In a perceived slight the board agreed on the name Ethnic Studies: An overview of Americans of Mexican Descent. Board Member David Bradley came up with the name.

After two days of speakers calling for the original name the Board unanimously settled the problem. The course will be called Ethnic Studies: Mexican American Studies
