UPDATE:

Austin’s Mayor Steve Adler updates the local Covid 19 special orders after covid related hospitalizations spiked and crossed a new threshold. The City of Austin’s Current Stay Home Stay Safe orders have been extended to August 15th and Mayor Adler made a new order as well, focussed on businesses.

The new orders ask businesses reopened during the corona crisis by Governor Greg Abbott to scale back. Mayor Adler said the city is strongly suggesting businesses to operate at 25% capacity, and offer services remotely where possible, like curbside pickup. Mayor Adler said, per the governor’s orders, he cannot mandate these rules, but points to the area’s new rate of 20 covid related hospitalizations a day and asks businesses do more than what is required.

With the number of cases a day reaching a new threshold, the area is now in Stage 4 on the Covid Risk Chart, Stage 4 calls for an end to all non-essential travel and for workers to stay home. In the coming days, the impact protests have had should become clearer.
