The Earl Thomas Conundrum

It is hard to believe I am writing this. As a Seahawks fan, Earl Thomas was the epitome of a ‘Team Player’, absolutely a locker room favorite, someone who could be counted on to always be in the right spot to make a play, and if he wasn’t, he knew how to get his teammates in the right spot.  He’s a dang World Champion!

So how did we get here? The only issues I recall from his time in Seattle was clashing with the front office over his contract near the end of his tenure. There was the ‘one finger salute’ he gave Coach Pete Carroll as he was being carted off the field, the last time he ever wore a Seattle Seahawks jersey. That was September 18th, 2018.

One year to the day of that infamous middle-finger, the Earl Thomas led Ravens defense gave up over 500 yards to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs… it was all down hill from there. The theme the next few months was all about giving up on plays, skipping mandatory meetings, no longer the locker room favorite he once was. That stigma stuck with him until his ultimate release.

This is not me trying to bash the guy, but if the Cowboys truly are making a run for his services, is it the right move for a team that already seems to be meshing well on defense?  Thankfully I don’t have to make decisions like this, but trying to make a case for him, at this point, seems difficult.

Ed Werder has a great thread on Twitter, reading between the lines of Jerry Jones’ radio interview where Earl Thomas’ name obviously came up.

This is in response to a tweet from Ian Rapoport, who tweeted that the Cowboys had no interest in pursuing Earl Thomas, in typical Jerry Jones fashion, he so eloquently debunked those rumors.

So what do you think?  Should the Cowboys sign Earl Thomas?

Take our poll!
