The Travis County Election’s office will need to shut down three of its four mail in ballot drop off locations, following an order from Governor Greg Abbott.
The Governor’s order allows only one set location for residents to personally hand off a Mail in ballot, citing ballot security. Texas Democrats are calling it blatant voter suppression and are considering challenging the order in court.
Governor Abbott says this will strengthen ballot security protocols throughout the state. Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilbert Hinojosa calls it voter suppression and a sign of desperation by the Republicans, “Stop messing with voters in Texas, let’em vote. It’s there constitutional right, this is a democracy, everybody should be allowed to participate in the electoral process and you shouldn’t make it difficult for them to vote. You should make it easy to vote.”
