Austin City Staffers say there too few possible locations for a possible designated homeless encampment.
After running through City Council’s list of requirements and feedback on where a sanctioned encampment could be placed, Parks and Rec Director Kimberly McNeely says they don’t have very many options left. “We do not have pieces of land that really qualify.” McNeely explained, the criteria given through council’s feedback eliminated just about every city owned property they had been considering.
And with Governor Greg Abbott poised to sign into law, legislation banning the use of parkland as sanctioned encampment space, city staffers are further limited and want the council to give them further direction as the hunt for camp space continues.
