New life may soon be breathed into 19-acres of land in Austin near St. John’s.
For years now there has been a debate of what to do with the site. It’s most notable for housing an old Home Depot that is steadily degrading.
According to a memo out this week from city staff, the council could possibly enter negotiations with Greystar Development, a company that wants to build 560 housing units on the land, half of which would be reserved for low-income tenants.
The plan would also include retail, park space, job training, and more. The memo also says this would be doable without the need for taxpayer subsidies. The city council is set to discuss the proposal next week.
