The Travis County Attorney and District Attorney are balking at claims they’re too soft on criminals.
District Attorney Jose Garza says his office is not standing in the way of police doing their jobs, nor, he says, is he releasing violent criminals back onto the street. But he does fully endorse alternative to jail and diversion programs. “Of course, our office takes acts of violence or any crime that would threaten public safety incredibly seriously.”
He says a diversion program would help put an end to a revolving door of low-level criminals, allowing his office to work more closely with police. County Attorney Delia Garza also scoffs at allegations she is soft on crime, saying police are pumping out a lot of misinformation. Travis County leaders will discuss a diversion program later today.
