The City of Pflugerville has a new police chief. Following a nationwide search involving 90 candidates, one of the Pflugerville Police Department’s own has been given the job. Commander Jason O’Malley was officially named the new Chief of Police on Tuesday night by the city council.
O’Malley is a 21-year veteran of law enforcement, having served in the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshall’s Service, as well as the Pflugerville Police Department. O’Malley is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command, and is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, and the National Asian Peace Officers’ Association.
“His commitment to 21st Century Policing, passion for transparency, accountability and community engagement illustrate his capacity to lead the Pflugerville Police Department through the challenges and opportunities of growth,” the city said. “Chief O’Malley’s experience and proven leadership skills have fostered a collaborative working relationship between officers and the community, as well as within the Pflugerville Police Department.”
O’Malley will immediately begin his duties as chief, however his formal swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled for a later date.
