Despite consecutive weeks of improving COVID-19 metrics, including nearly two weeks with a 7-day average of hospitalizations hovering within Stage 2 territory, Austin Public Health on Friday announced its intention to keep the area in Stage 3 ahead of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
“And I know we’re tired. We’ve been in this for two years,” said APH Director Adrienne Sturrup. “We’ve lost friends, we’ve lost family, we’ve lost other loved ones, and we’re just tired.”
The decision to keep the area up in Stage 3 comes as officials say the transmission rate of COVID is still just too high with the major holidays on the horizon.
