Senate Bill 9, the election bill is under debate in the House Election Committee. It would heighten criminal penalties surrounding the entire election process…including those who mistakenly vote when ineligible. UT student Hannah Hughes is one of many who testified against the bill, she said emplementing harsh regulations will only deter voters, especially younger voters are new in the ‘ritual’ of voting.
The bill would also add criminal penalties to poll workers and voter assistants that fail to follow the proper procedure.
Supporters say it would strengthen the integrity of Texas Elections.
