A crash on SH 21 claims the life of a volunteer firefighter

A Volunteer Firefighter dies in a traffic crash this morning. Chisholm Trail Fire and Rescue responded to a wreck and found one of their own dead on the scene. Three year vetaran Nick Zoulek was praised by Chief Mark Padier as selfless in his service to the communities of Caldwell and Hays County.

Chisholm Trail Fire Rescue (CTFR) responded to a fatal vehicle collision this morning involving the death of one of their own members. Upon arrival, crews discovered that CTFR firefighter Nick Zoulek was the occupant of one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene. Kyle Fire Department was requested to assist with the recovery of Nick Zoulek and CTFR crews escorted his remains to the medical examiner’s office in Lockhart.

Neighboring fire departments around Caldwell / Hays County Emergency Service District 1 are providing support and coverage for the area as CTFR struggles with this deep and personal loss.  

Chief Mark Padier said, “Firefighter Nick Zoulek was selfless in his service to the communities of Caldwell and Hays County for over three years.”
