A plan to reduce congestion on 183 North is moving forward

In the next several years, a nine-mile stretch of 183 North between SH 45 and Mopac is expected to double in size.  The Mobility Authority’s deputy executive director Robert Goode said the plan is to add one new mainlane and two new toll lanes in each direction, creating a total of 12 lanes of travel.

The plan is to maintain the current frontage road capacity while also adding an additional bike lane on each side.

CTRMA has whittled down potential bidders to three, with a contract execution expected by August of next year.  As far as the construction timeline, that is expected to begin in 2021 with a grand opening eyed for sometime in 2025.

The plan is to also run Capital Metro buses along those toll lanes free of charge, just like on Mopac.
