In coordination with March for Truth, the Travis County Democrats and Austin City Council member Jimmy Flannigan are spearheading a Thursday protest in the wake of the departure of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has been replaced by Matt Whitaker.
A press release from Flannigan’s office says:
“Although Special Counsel Robert Mueller has not yet been fired, the national organizers of March for Truth have decided that the newly appointed replacement for fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions is likely to interfere with the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation.
What will happen if Mueller is fired? As the nation speculates on the potential firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, activists across the country are gearing up for a nationwide response. And Austin is doing its part.”
Calling Whitaker a “Trump loyalist,” Flannigan says the president has “undercut the independence of the investigation.”
The protest begins at 5:00 p.m. outside of Austin City Hall, 301 W. 2nd Street.
