Austin Mayor Steve Adler cruised to an easy victory on Tuesday night, defeating his nearest challenger, Laura Morrisson, early in the evening. Morrisson called Adler an hour after the polls closed to concede the race, offering to assist him in any way he may need during his second term as mayor.
Adler tells KLBJ his win, and the big win of the entire $925-million bond package, is a turning point for the city and what’s expected for the city council.
“It’s exciting to see a community speak so loudly with a single voice. To move forward, to move past the do-nothing voices, the voices of the status quo,” Adler said.
The size of his victory was surprising even to Adler himself.
“I was hoping that we would win big enough to deliver a really clear mandate, but this was larger than anything I ever anticipated.”
Adler won 60{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote. Morrison won only 20{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} before her concession.
