The Austin Independent School District is imposing a transfer freeze on 28 of its schools for the 2019-2020 school year. There are a variety of reasons for this, according to Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz.
“Each year the district determines which schools will be frozen to transfers,” Cruz said. “Considerations include enrollments that exceed capacity, construction, and programming such as dual-language campuses.”
The list includes five high schools, four elementary schools, and 19 elementary schools:

- Austin High
- Bowie High
- Lanier Early College High
- McCallum High
- Lamar Middle
- Lively Middle (renamed from Fulmore Middle School)
- Murchison Middle
- Small Middle
- Baldwin Elementary
- Baranoff Elementary
- Becker Elementary
- Blazier Elementary
- Brentwood Elementary
- Casis Elementary
- Cowan Elementary
- Doss Elementary
- Gullett Elementary
- Hill Elementary
- Kiker Elementary
- Maplewood Elementary
- Menchaca Elementary
- Oak Hill Elementary
- Reilly Elementary
- Ridgetop Elementary
- Summitt Elementary
- Sunset Valley Elementary
- Zilker Elementary
