4. NEW LIFE BREATHED INTO EL PATIO
After deciding to close its doors in July…longtime Austin restaurant El Patio is back in business with brand new owners. The restaurant says many of its former employees have agreed to return. El Patio first opened in 1954 and the new owners hope to have the whole operation back up and running by the end of this month.
5. CHANGES PROPOSED TO CAMPING ORDINANCE
Austin City Councilmembers Kathie Tovo and Ann Kitchen release a draft of proposed changes to the homeless camping ordinance that would ban camping in certain areas around town. Kitchen says those areas include highly trafficked sidewalks, roadsides, and other dangerous zones.
“Places that there are environmental conditions, or flooding, or fire risk. Areas around shelters. Those kinds of things,” Kitchen says.
Mayor Adler and Councilmember Greg Casar released a competing ordinance that allows for camping on sidewalks and trails as long as a person leaves 4-5 feet of space for others to get around.
