Travis County is moving ahead with Route B, the $980,000 emergency-only road connecting Flat Top Ranch Road with Montview Drive. This was a lengthy debate, in part because Route B will run through private property. Commissioner Gerald Daugherty and Judge Sarah Eckhardt didn’t see eye-to-eye on that . And ultimately this came down to cost.
While acknowledging Route F as a better solution, Public Works Director David Greer said funding dried up when CAMPO shifted grant funding toward new I-35 projects.
Route F would’ve been a permanent road with a price tag of $7.2-million. Travis County expects the new road to carry 750 vehicles an hour during an evacuation.
