Investigators and first responders have now found 5 bodies while searching through three San Marcos apartment complexes devastated by fire. Officials report the Iconic Village Apartments’ 500 building did not have a fire sprinkler system installed. That’s because it was built before city codes required it. In Round Rock Fire Marshal Dennis Kincheloe says they also have several apartment buildings without sprinklers, for the same reason.
Kincheloe says they make annual inspections of those apartment buildings and make sure the residents have access to fire extinguishers in or near their apartment.
