The Austin Police Department’s Robbery Unit is investigating the latest “jugging” robbery — a crime that has seen a sharp increase over the past year in which a person is robbed after leaving a bank or financial institution.
According to reports, it happened on Wednesday, December 29, 2022, around noon at the Bank of America at 2501 South Congress Avenue. A man in a dark gray Ford Fusion with dark-tinted windows exited the vehicle and attacked an older woman, causing multiple injuries before stealing a large amount of money from her.
A specific dollar amount has not been made public.
Police have provided the following description of the man in question:
- Light skin Black or Hispanic male
- He was las seen wearing a gray hoodie, red shirt, and black pants.
Throughout 2022, APD says Austin saw approximately 140 jugging reports.
