Central Texas law enforcement may have found a link between a June 2024 murder in southeast Austin and an April 208 murder in Bastrop County.

On Friday, June 21, 2024, officers with the Austin Police Department responded to the call in the 2600 block of Metcalfe Road. The caller stated they had seen what appeared to be a deceased person at this location. Officers arrived and located a female in an abandoned house, described by officers to be “obviously deceased.” The victim was later identified as Alyssa Ann Rivera.

Detectives believe Rivera was murdered at that location by an unknown suspect.

This week, APD provided an update on the Rivera case, citing a DNA link to the murder of Alba Jenisse Avila, who was found dead in the 300 block of Old San Antonio Road in Bastrop County. She was located three miles away from the home where River was found.

The killings appear to be sexual in nature, APD said.

Despite the DNA evidence linking the same person to both women’s death, there has been no suspect or person of interest identified.

The only description is that of a short, Hispanic male.
