The Austin Police Department Robbery Unit announced on Tuesday two additional cases related to the a series of armed robberies — the 24th robbery series of the year, according to police.
17-year-old Jaylyn Reed is linked now to 11 aggravated robberies throughout the city. After notifying the public last week about Reed and his crimes with three other suspects, APD received further information to connect two additional criminal incidents involving Reed.
According to the Austin Police Department, on June 7, 2022, officers responded to an armed robbery at the Garden Path Apartments, in the 8000 block of Gessner Dr. A male victim was walking in his apartment complex when Reed and an another unidentified man approached him. Reed allegedly held the victim at gunpoint, assaulted him, and both men stole his property. A witness intervened by repeatedly honking a vehicle’s horn, which caused the Reed and the other attacker to run off.
Just a short time later, officers responded to a shooting near the robbery. Officers on the scene quickly linked the shooting to the theft at the Garden Path Apartments. Surveillance cameras showed Reed and the unidentified man crossing E. Anderson Ln after having just committed the alleged robbery. A driver and a passenger in a black pickup truck were traveling eastbound as the two men approached. Reed then allegedly pointed his gun at the truck and began firing randomly. The people inside the pickup truck were not hurt.
Reed is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Robbery. Investigations are ongoing
