By some estimates, Austin is the second most popular tourist destination besides Las Vegas. Some worry that high hotel occupancy taxes could be crippling the Austin tourism industry but Paul Vaughn with San Antonio based hotel consultants Source Strategies says that’s not the case.
Vaughn says travelers expect to pay those taxes which are prevalent throughout the state and that some may opt for cheaper accommodations if it’s borderline for their budgets.
