Arrest Made in Austin’s 16th Homicide of 2022

A man has been taken into custody by police following the discovery of a man’s body who had been killed not far from a homeless camp on Riverside Drive near Pleasant Valley Road.  The Lonestar Fugitive Task Force arrested Zacariah Lopez on a murder warrant in the 1000 block of Park Plaza.

According to Austin police, on shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, officers responded to a shoot/stab hot shot call that occurred under the bridge in the 4400 block of E. Riverside Dr.  Both APD officers and EMS responded to the scene and located a man on the ground with obvious trauma. Despite efforts to save the man’s life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased at 2:18 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Jesse Hernandez, 24.  An autopsy has confirmed that his death was not from natural causes

Lopez has been booked into the Travis County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
