With the City of Austin expected to enter COVID Stage 5 later this month if not this week, local leaders are mulling over a COVID curfew.
Austin’s Mayor Steve Adler says that is something they are looking at, but would only really consider if the city does actually does move into stage 5 on the Covid Risk chart, and emphasizes no final decision has been made on such a restriction.
The mayor adds such a order would be difficult to enforce, “There are not enough code enforcement agents, firefighters, deputy sheriffs, and police officers to enforce our way to compliance.” Mayor Adler says a curfew it’s something that the people of Austin would have to be willing to accept and expect of themselves and their neighbors for it to really work.
