Austin-Bergstrom begins autonomous vehicle testing

Travelers can now try the latest in autonomous transportation technology as part of a new pilot program at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Now in a public testing phase, the airport’s Easy Mile EZ10 driverless shuttle is available to transport passengers going between the Barbara Jordan Terminal and the Rental Car Facility/Ground Transportation, which is also the location for the airport’s ground transportation pick-up area for taxis and rideshare services.  An ABIA attendant is present to help travelers and will also be there for safety purposes, during this pilot program.

Operating on the upper level of Garage 1, the electric, driverless, and ADA-compliant six seat car represents another mobility alternative for moving travelers around the airport.

Aiport officials said, this is adding a green energy mobility solution that will benefit both travelers and the environment, they explained this is just one of the steps they are taking to meet the City of Austin’s Strategic Direction 2023 Health & Environment outcome

ABIA said, other route options could be explored in the future.
