Austin City Council again delays decision on Major League Soccer until next week

Supporters were visibly angry at the council once again not making a decision.  Six council members submitted 24 last-minutes amendments, some of which the mayor calls poison pills designed to derail the plan outright.

Council proposed numerous amendments to the deal and wants time to look them over. Precourt’s Lawyer Richard Suttle said while this means he’ll need to ask for another extension from MLS, he sees the proposals as a possible sign of support from council.

Of the hundreds of Austinites gathered at last night’s meeting, MLS supporters heavily outnumbered opponents four to one.

So now the deadline to decide is Wednesday.  Suttle said he is concerned about the fact that MLS has already granted an extension on this, and he says this delay could lead MLS executives to decide to throw in the towel on any support for relocating a team to Austin.
