The Austin Convention Center is expected to remain void of COVID-19 patients:
And that’s due to the fact that despite there being a jump in hospitalizations, Travis County is nowhere near the capacity limits it saw over the summer.
Dr. Jason Pickett with Austin Public Health says staffing is the concern now, not capacity, “We have beds, we have equipment. But as more people are out sick with the virus or exposure to the virus then that reduces the available staff.”
Staffing is getting strained in part due to COVID patients being brought in from other cities. But Pickett says there’s no reason to believe the Convention Center will be need any time soon.
