City of Austin

The Austin Chamber of Commerce’s November report on the Central Texas economy further highlights the city’s robust recovery from the pandemic.

According to the report, Austin added 57,300 jobs in the 12 months ending in November — a growth of 4.7 percent.  That makes Austin the 17th best performing jobs among the top 50 metros in the nation.  The report also ranks Austin 2nd for job growth since February 2020.

Austin’s leisure and hospitality industry reached a new peak employment level in November of 153,200, or 12.0 percent of all jobs, nearly matching the industry’s 12.1 percent pre-pandemic share.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate now stands at 2.8 percent, up slightly from October’s 2.9 percent.

All of the 2020 pandemic-related job losses were recovered by May 2021.
