Austin’s city leadership is maintaining at least three of its current elected officials.
So far its a bit of the status quo, according to the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin’s Holly Davis. But with that, she expects progress on big issues dealing with area housing and zoning. “With Mayor Adler,” she said, “I think he’s in a much stronger position to go forward with the land use rewrite and show some leadership on that.”
The HBAGA is feeling pretty good about the other elections that have ended in runoffs. Davis said they believe incumbent Pio Renteria, who is for increased housing options, will retake his District 3 seat.
In the District 8 race, Davis reports the HBAGA endorsed Frank Ward (Ellen Troxclair’s chosen successor). But noted they are still excited to see what could happen with his electoral rival Paige Ellis. Ellis lead the pack in the District 8 race and held a 6{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} lead on Ward in the midterms.
But it’s not all good news, Davis said Mayor protem Kathie Tovo’s victory represents a missed opportunity to move in a direction that understands housing issues. Davis called Tovo more of a preservationist when it comes to developments.
