Austin Employment Now Outpacing Pre-Pandemic Levels

Like virtually everywhere else, Austin was hit very hard by the impacts of the 2020 shutdowns and capacity limitations that were imposed upon the private sector.  Since then, however, the city has seen a meteoric rebound across most employment sectors, which has increased the number of people who are employed to well beyond pre-pandemic levels.

According to the latest CenTex Economy Report from the Austin Chamber of Commerce, all of the 2020 job losses tied to the pandemic have been regained.  Not only that, the report shows Austin now has 47,000 more jobs than it did in February 2020.  Within the leisure and hospitality sector alone, more than 1400 new jobs were added for the month of November.

Over the last 12 months, Austin has ranked as the second-best performing job market in the nation.

The unemployment rate for November has improved from October’s 3.7-percent down to 3.5-percent, which outpaces both the state and national rates.
