More than 10,000 customers lost power over the span of back-to-back days last week, leaving people without air conditioning on some of the hottest days of the year so far.

Austin Energy has reportedly made a permanent fix at a Southwest Austin substation after an equipment failure required re-routing power to restore service for customers.

The first outages were reported on Wednesday, August 21, involving more than 7000 customers. Power was brought back online hours later. The following day, a transformer at a Southwest Austin substation went offline, and around 6,400 customers lost power.

The equipment failure was not related to heat or energy demand, the utility said.

Due to slightly cooler temperatures on Friday, the temporary re-routing of power held up and technicians were reportedly able to complete permanent repairs to the transformer and bring it back online.
