27 Austin Energy employees have been sent to Florida and help with any power restoration efforts that may be needed due to Hurricane Dorian. The rew members are lineworkers and other support personnel, all of whom traveled in a convoy of bucket trucks and support vehicles to Jacksonville, Fla., hauling a pole trailer, material trailer, and other necessary equipment.
Austin Energy received the request for mutual aid from the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA), and Austin Energy is coordinating its efforts through the American Public Power Association.
“Our crews are prepared for a deployment of two to three weeks, but the duration of their assistance will depend on the community’s need,” the utility says.
In 2017, Austin Energy responded to a similar request from JEA following Hurricane Irma. Austin Energy will be reimbursed for the assistance.
