Austin Mayor Race Still Tight

A week removed from Election Day, Kirk Watson continues to hold the slimmest of leads in the race for Austin’s next mayor. As of Tuesday, November 12, the incumbent Watson was holding onto 50.01 percent of the vote.

But it’s not over yet.

According to the city clerk, thousands of provisional and mail-in ballots have yet to be counted, and many of those could tip the scales a bit in favor of the second place candidate, Carmen Llanes-Pulido.

Watson would need to maintain at least 50 percent in order to claim victory outright. Falling below that threshold would send him into a runoff in December with Llanes-Pulido.

The election results will be certified on November 19.
