Following FDA and CDC approval of the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 booster in kids between the ages of 12 and 15, Austin Public Health has now begin dosing out those boosters to the newly eligible population
The announcement of expanded eligibility comes at a critical time as students return to school after winter break. Right now, more than 70 percent of those eligible in Travis County are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and more than 81 percent have at least one dose. Booster doses are strongly encouraged.
“Today we elevated our community’s risk level to its highest stage. Omicron is spreading throughout our community faster than any variant that’s come before it,” said Dr. Desmar Walkes, Austin-Travis County Health Authority. “The places where you go for health care, to eat and to buy goods and services will all be short-staffed. We must act now to protect our way of life.”
