Austin Public Health warns of more covid hotspots

Austin Public Health officials say they are seeing more clusters of covid 19 infections in construction workers and those in the food service industry as the state reopens the economy.

APH’s Janette Pichette said the Construction industry is particularly difficult to keep up with and test, “As an example, you may have a general contractor who has several subcontractors.” But she added, its not the only industry with growing infection clusters, pointing to the food services industry and others.

These clusters are another reason why APH is working on a targeted testing campaign, hoping to get more workers in those industries to get themselves checked out. But, Pichette continued, fears of what could happen after that is still pushing workers away. “Because if they are identified as positive, there may be concerns they’ll be put of work for a period of time.”
