The Austin Round Rock Metro area’s job growth rate holds at 2.5{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0}, making it the 12th fastest growing metro in the country.

From April of last year to last month, the metro added 26,100 jobs. While still positive the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s Beverly Kerr says the Metro’s growth rate seems to have slowed over the last several months, which even weighed down last year’s total job growth rate to 2.5{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0}. But she said data just released by the Texas Work force commission shows Austin’s job market grew by 3.7{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0} in 2018 rather than the 2.5{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0} previously reported. But wether or not that trend continues in Austin’s current business cycle remains to be seen.

Back to the April numbers, Kerr reports 2.5{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0} is still a good amount of growth. The Professional and Business Services industry added the most jobs (8,200) over the last 12 months. Wholesale trade grew by 7.7{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0} making it the fastest growing industry, Kerr believes much of these jobs are tied to Austin’s tech sector. Austin’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is down from 2.7{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0} to 2.5{870dce3150dcce8b7f57e497f1835ac6446de711f3b298b842add65a7b4249b0}
