Extenuating circumstances, that’s the reason Austin City Council voted to extend their vendor contract at the Waller Creek Boat House with the Non-profit, Austin Rowing Club. The Club’s Cameal Job explained, the adjacent Waller Creek Tunnel construction made regular business at the boat house nearly impossible.
As long as the tunnel was under construction the Club looked like it too was still under construction, the problem was only exacerbated because the tunnel was four years behind schedule.
But the motion did not go unquestioned, some, including Mayor Steve Adler felt, the Club had its time at the boat house, and procedurally their vendor contract should go up for public bid. So to keep from setting precedent, Mayor Protem Kathie Tovo suggested an amendment specifically detailing the construction as the reason Council would make this one time extension this clamed fears on the dais, and it was passed unanimously.
