Shelter space for the homeless remains a challenge for Austin.
The overwhelming majority of Austin’s homeless population is comprised of men, but there are women and some children out there too. Women can make use of the ARCH during the day, but Kristi Samilpa with the Homeless Strategy Officer says the new Salvation Army Rathgaber Center will cater mostly to women and homeless families.
She expects the Rathgaber Center to also help with keeping space free at the upcoming South Austin shelter too.
