For at least two more nights, the City of Austin will activate its old weather shelters.  The city initially began with three, but expanded to a fourth shelter in order to meet the demand.

296 people were given a place to stay on Monday night, along with eight dogs and cats, the city says.  On Tuesday night, 431 people were given shelter from the cold.

Those needing shelter from the frigid temperatures can register at One Texas Center located at 505 Barton Springs Road between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Transportation will be provided from One Texas Center to a city-run cold weather shelter by Capital Metro.

City parks facilities and libraries also serve as warming centers during regular daytime business hours.
