Austin transportation leaders mounting an effort to get drivers to slow down

Austin Transportation Department is crafting a speed management program for Austin roadways as part of their vision zero campaign.

Director Robert Spillar tells the Institute of Transportation Engineers one idea is an old one to send letters to known speeders informing them they’re being watched and to slow down to avoid getting pulled over and that idea faces flak from the state over privacy concerns.

Spillar said the idea came from the Austin Police Department, which had used the technique in the past.
